The business is owned and operated by Directors Lee and Jayne Rothwell. They started the business in 1988, initially trading as Pump Technology and based out of their garage in Evans Head on the North Coast of NSW. Lee grew up in Casino and was educated at Casino High School going on to Hawkesbury Agriculture College to complete Agricultural Science specialising in Farm Mechanisation. Jayne grew up in Tamworth and moved to Newcastle qualifying as a registered nurse and midwife and working in Newcastle Tamworth and Alice Springs until joining Lee in the business.

In 1995 they moved the business to Ballina and changed their trading name to Rothwell’s Pump and Irrigation and expanded into retail sales to diversify the business and better represent the needs of the market. The workforce expanded to one full-time service technician and a part-time retail salesperson.

As demand increased so did the need for additional space and a more regionally central location. In 1999 they relocated the business to a purpose-built premise in the Russellton Industrial Estate in Alstonville. The new facility has a large retail area, warehouse and specialised workshop. Headcount expanded to five; one full-time retail salesperson, two service technicians and two administration staff.

In May 2007 the business became founding members of a national franchise called Think Water, rebranding their local business as Think Water Alstonville. In 2018 the trading name changed to Think Water Northern Rivers to better represent the region. At this stage, the business was employing 15 people. Lee and Jayne have both served on the Think Water Australia and New Zealand Board of Directors and have also both served as
Chairperson on the Board.
